Highland Orchards Update 3-7-2022 - From WBT Fire Co.

As an update from our last communication on March 2, 2022, the Highland Orchards staff have removed the larger logs that were accessible to reduce the fire load. The staff then began to cover the pile with approximately 8 – 12 inches of soil, which is 95% complete; this will aid in suppressing the smoke and ash while allowing any rainfall to soak into the soil keeping the area moist to assist with extinguishing the pile. The pile will continue to burn and we will continue to monitor the pile along with HO Inc staff. It has been determined by WBFC and HO Inc officials that the 24/7 fire watch will be discontinued and the light tower will be removed sometime this week. You will still see some smoke, steam and hot areas with some small flames that may break through the soil or ash cover, this condition will be monitored daily. Should you have any concerns please email Chief Jack Law at chief@wbfc.org and he will get back to you as soon as he can. We will also continue to monitor the Sherwood Dr. area as a precaution, so you may see increased fire vehicles in the neighborhood, this is no reason for concern, just a precaution. We would like to Thank everyone for their continuous patience and support during this time.

Thank you and we will wish you a safe, healthy and happy Spring
