Refuse and Recycling Overview
West Bradford Township's refuse and recycling program was established by the Municipal Waste Collection Ordinance (PDF). (This link combines Ordinance 08-04 with the amendments to that ordinance in 08-05 highlighted in red.) Ordinance 08-04 was originally adopted on September 9, 2008. It was amended in Ordinance 08-05, adopted November 25, 2008.
The Township Uses an Automated Trash Collection System Based on Toters
Toters are approved refuse and recycling containers supplied to each residential unit (except for mobile home parks) by the Township. Each residence receives an all-green toter for refuse and a green toter with a yellow lid for their recycling. The toters stay with the residential unit, even if there is a change in ownership. We recommend that residents mark or paint their house number on their toter and keep a record of its serial number. Lost or stolen toters must be replaced by the homeowner. Damaged toters are repaired or replaced at no cost by the Township. Contact the Township Office for the replacement procedure.
The Toters Must Be Placed at the Curbside by 6:00 am on the Day of Collection
We encourage residents to place them at the curb the night before. They should be left with the lid opening facing the street and the handle facing away from the street. Do not set the toter right next to a mailbox, tree, or parked car, and do not place anything next to or on top of the toter. The mechanical arms need space to operate and cannot lift toters that are too close to other objects, are more than halfway open, or have items on top of them. If this happens, the toter will not be collected. (Please see Excess Refuse collection for details.) Electronic devices may no longer be put in your toters. Please read about this new law.
Excess Refuse
Excess trash is collected on your regular trash day. The trash must be normal refuse, not cardboard, yard waste, or large items. It must be placed in regular, plastic, 30-gallon trash bags near your toter. Township trash stickers must be placed on each bag of excess trash and the stickers must be visible from the road. Stickers may not be placed on cardboard boxes, as they are recyclable materials. The stickers cost $2.50 each. They may be purchased from the Township by mail or in person during regular business hours. There is no limit to the number of 30-gallon bags of excess trash you may put out for collection at one time, provided that each bag has a sticker and the contents are normal excess refuse, not recyclables, yard waste, or large items.
Excess Recycling
Excess Recycling that does not fit in your toter can be placed curbside in any receptacle on your pickup day.
