A Letter from the Township Manager: A Peek Behind the Leaf

Home Posted on April 10, 2025

Well, it appears Spring is here in Pennsylvania, one of the few states where you can get frostbite, sun poisoning, and hypothermia all within a 24-hour period!

Here are some exciting things taking place this Spring.

On April 5th, we hosted our annual Easter Egg Hunt at Broad Run Park. The Easter Bunny even made a grand entrance aboard a West Bradford fire truck, much to the delight of the crowd.

Coming up on Thursday, April 17th, Township staff and I will be attending the Marshallton Conservation Trust’s annual Souper Supper. This year’s event will include a conversation focused on trash and recycling services where we will have an in-depth conversation about the origins and progress of our in-house trash and recycling services.  We will also be joined by our Fire Chief for a discussion on fire safety.

Pending our anticipated arrival of trees, Friday, April 25th, we’re celebrating Arbor Day and giving away free trees! This giveaway is made possible through the support of the Chester County History Center, The Humphry Marshall Fund, and West Bradford Township. We’ll have approximately 75 trees available, consistent with native species identified by Humphry Marshall. Please note: the giveaway is limited to one tree per household, and proof of residency is required. Stay tuned to our website and Facebook for details.

As you may have read on our website or social media, we now have a front-end loader at the compost site (2020 Strasburg Road) to load your mulch. The loader will be on-site from March 29 through June 28.  Remember the Compost Site is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In other news, we’ve just completed our 2024 audit. This year, we partnered with a new CPA firm, Withum, based out of Philadelphia. I want to commend our finance staff, and all our staff, for their excellent work. During the exit interview, the auditors were highly complementary of our finance team and praised the Township’s strong system of internal controls and checks and balances. These practices are vital to ensuring our continued success well into the future.

Lastly, please join us in welcoming our new public works employee, Scott Van Cleave. Scott is no stranger to West Bradford having worked here as a summer employee and is actively involved with the local Scouts. Scott has previously worked for the Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium (DARC). — Justin Yaich, Township Manager
