The Land Preservation and Sustainability Committee hosted residents for a discussion of topics relevant to homeowners at the township building on Monday, April 8.
Assess your trees
Kayla Kehres, PA Forester, provided information about Pennsylvania forests and how to help care for trees. Her colleague John Nissen is assigned to our section of Chester County and can answer your tree questions. A PA Forester can also conduct a “neighborhood walk-through” to assess tree health and the possibilities for new climate-resilient plantings. Contact John Nissen (jnissen@pa.gov).
Protect nesting birds
Zoe Warner, Willistown Conservation Trust, discussed the threats to grassland birds and her group’s collaboration with farmers to make sure the birds have a chance to nest and thrive. She is currently looking for farmers to create bird-friendly fields; contact her at zmw@wctrust.org.
Land preservation
Representatives from land conservation groups Brandywine Red Clay Alliance (Abbie Kessler), Natural Lands (Jack Stefferud), and the Brandywine Conservancy (John Goodall) spoke about the process for putting property under an agricultural or conservation easement in order to preserve its natural beauty for generations to come. Contact any one of this group if you want to explore preserving your land.
