Are your electricity prices increasing? The main cause is new data centers coming online.
Our regional grid operator sets a price for the amount of supply in relation to forecasted future demand, which is passed along to consumers through electric companies. This recently increased 22% and is expected to remain high.
Homeowners and not-for-profit entities (churches, schools, etc.) can protect themselves from such unpredictable price increases by installing their own solar generation. However, recent federal changes will eliminate the 30% tax rebate (individuals) or direct payment (not-for-profits) soon, so the cost of solar systems will also rise.
If you were hoping to install solar, act now! Here are some important dates deadlines:
- December 31, 2025: begin construction by this date and receive the full 30% credit.
- January 1 - July 4, 2026: projects that begin construction still eligible for the 30%, but they must comply with forthcoming “Foreign Entity Of Concern" rules.
- July 5, 2026 - December 31, 2027: FEOC-compliant projects beginning construction in this window are still eligible for the 30% credit if completed by December 31, 2027.
Local “Solarize” organizations (Greater West Chester, Northern Chester County, Philadelphia) can facilitate planning and contracting.
