BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

The Board of Supervisors consists of three members. One member is elected at large during each local election (every other year). The term of office is six years. The Chairmanship of the Board is voted on by the members and traditionally rotates every year.  The authority of the Board is based upon the State's Second Class Township Code.

The Board of Supervisors is responsible for the appointment of the Township Manager and various boards and commissions. The Supervisors determine municipal policy (in concert with permissions of state law), the level of services provided to the citizens, adopt the budget, and set the municipal tax rate. The Board of Supervisors adopts the Comprehensive Plan, which determines community goals and objectives.

The Board of Auditors consists of three members. One member is elected at large during each local election (every other year). The term of office is six years.  The elected Auditors are responsible for reviewing the financial records of the Township and reporting their findings to the State.  The Township also undertakes an independent yearly audit of its financial records through a professional Certified Public Accountant firm.

TAX COLLECTOR

The Township Tax Collector is elected every four years.  The Tax Collector is responsible for the collection of real estate taxes within the township.  West Bradford Township does not collect any real estate taxes.  The Township appoints, on an annual basis, a professional tax collection firm to collect its income taxes.

PLANNING COMMISSION

The Planning Commission is a seven member advisory board to the Board of Supervisors. The members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors for terms of four years. The members serve without compensation.  Members must be residents of the Township.

The responsibilities of the Commission are outlined in the State's Municipalities Planning Code.  Their tasks include reviewing and making recommendations on subdivision and land development plans, preparing and/or recommending ordinances regarding subdivision and land development, promoting interest in the Comprehensive Plan, preparing environmental studies, and other activities at the request of the Board of Supervisors.

The commission, in carrying out its responsibilities, may hold hearings and make site visits to properties being considered for development.

RECREATION COMMISSION

The Recreation Commission consists of seven members. The members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve a term of four years. The members serve without compensation.

The commission has been established to review and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on the maintenance, use and improvement of existing recreational facilities and the acquisition and development of new facilities. Other duties include working closely with the Township Parks Director in recommending the creation of new recreation programs and contracts with groups that provide recreational services to the Township.

An important duty is the review of new development proposals, with regard to the adequacy of open space, park land, trails, or other recreational areas. Additionally, the commission develops, recommends and periodically reviews ordinance provisions that relate to the preservation of open space, development of recreation areas and management of these areas. The commission continues to monitor and update the "Open Space, Recreation, and Environmental Resources Plan" of the Township.

HISTORICAL COMMISSION

The Historical Commission consists of seven members. The members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve a term of three years. The members serve without compensation.

The commission has been established to record the history of West Bradford Township, gather information on the historical resources that may be affected during development and provide recommendations to the Township Planning Commission on mitigating these impacts.  They oversee  update of the historical components of the Township's Comprehensive Plan at a minimum of every ten years.

The Commission also will develop a public education and outreach program on the Township's history and its important sites, advise and assist the Board of Supervisors and Township staff in the acquisition or restoration of any objects and sites relative to the Township's history, seek grant funding for activities and projects approved by the Board of Supervisors and gather documentary evidence, illustrations, photographs and other appropriate materials that will establish architecture and landmarks as significant and worthy of protection.

ZONING HEARING BOARD

The Zoning Hearing Board is a three member board appointed by the Board of Supervisors to hear appeals regarding the Zoning Ordinance.  Two alternate members are appointed.  The term of office is three years.  Members must be residents of the Township.  Its members serve without compensation.  The requirement for a Zoning Hearing Board is embodied in the Municipalities Planning Code. The Board has the use of a solicitor and engineer to give them advice and guidance.

The primary purpose of the Board is to help assure fair and equitable application and administration of the Zoning Ordinance by hearing appeals on the Zoning Officer’s decisions.  The Zoning Hearing Board may grant relief from the literal enforcement of the ordinance in certain hardship situations.  The Board has neither legislative nor enforcement power; it can't make or modify zoning policy. It is a quasi-judicial body: that is, its powers are to some extent judicial in nature.  The Board schedules hearings on applications with finding of fact and conclusions of law. Its scope of activities is limited to those permitted by the Municipalities Planning Code and the West Bradford Township Zoning Ordinance.

BUILDING APPEALS BOARD

The Building Appeals Board is a three member board appointed by the Board of Supervisors to hear appeals regarding the Building Code.  An alternate member is appointed.  The term of office is three years.  Members must be residents of the Township.  Its members serve without compensation.

The Appeals Board considers appeals resulting from a decision of the Code Enforcement Officer refusing to grant a modification to the provision of the Building Code covering the manner of construction or materials to be used.  An appeal can be based on a claim that the true intent of the code or the rules legally adopted under it have been incorrectly interpreted, the provisions of the code do not fully apply, or an equivalent form of construction can be used.

WEST BRADFORD DAY COMMITTEE

The West Bradford Day Committee is an ad hoc committee that reports to the Recreation Commission and Parks Director.  The primary duty of the Committee is to assist in the development of the yearly West Bradford Day event.  Members arrange the activities, food, and music during the event.  They solicit contributions from area businesses and the community and coordinate all West Bradford Day volunteers.  Members include representatives from community groups, civic service organizations, Township boards, and businesses.  Meetings are open to anyone interested in helping out during West Bradford Day.
