Mid-Atlantic Express Pipeline & Sparrows Point LNG Terminal Information:

AES proposes to construct and operate the Sparrows Point LNG Terminal in Baltimore County, Maryland to import, store, vaporize, and transport about 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Mid-Atlantic Express proposes to construct and operate an interstate natural gas pipeline to connect AES’s proposed Sparrows Point LNG Terminal with three interstate natural gas pipelines near Eagle, Pennsylvania.

Specifically, Mid-Atlantic Express proposes to construct and operate approximately 88 miles of 30-inch-diameter natural gas pipeline and other ancillary facilities including 9 mainline valves and 3 metering and regulation stations.

This pipeline will cross through Chester County and impact West Bradford Township residents.  The initial 2006 proposal was to utilize the same right-of-way as the Columbia Gas Pipeline.  The pipeline company was required by law to notify those owners (see below).  We believe that this was not done adequately and the company may have met only the minimum public notification requirements.  Many effected landowners, including West Bradford Township, were not adequately notified and not provided enough information to adequately determine the potential impacts on their property.

It has been brought to our attention that a series of “pipeline variations” are being considered by the pipeline company.  Again, we believe that many effected landowners have not been properly notified of these alternative routes.  The Township is in contact with FERC representatives and our state and federal elected officials to attempt to get full information on this project.

The required public notification requirements per 18 CFR 157.6 (d) can be found here
The full Environmental Impact Statement can be found here. (large file).
The original pipeline route maps (not showing alternatives) can be found here.
