MAY 2008 MARSHALLTON STREESCAPES UPDATE
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Thank you for your patience on the streetscapes and traffic calming project. The following is an update on the project and things happening around the village.
Traffic Calming Project
During the last group meeting in March, I spoke about the project schedule and the process of getting the required sign-offs from affected residents.
At that time, we had optimistically hoped to get all of the required sign-offs by April and were looking at getting PennDOT final approval this summer and possibly begin construction in 2009 depending on funding. It currently looks like the earliest PennDOT approval will come is this fall with construction possible for 2010.
PennDOT has required that 53 different landowners be contacted and consulted with on the project. We have secured the required approvals from 42 of those property owners. We are working towards getting the remaining 11 owners to provide their consent. I have had meetings with a majority of the remaining owners. We are attempting to reach agreements on how to move forward with many of them. Despite my attempts, it has been difficult to reach a few owners and some are unwilling to provide their consent. The Township is beginning to work on revising the engineering on some of these properties so that the improvements work will only occur within the right-of-way so that their consent is not required. However, this work may result in further delays to the project.
Marshallton Alliance
A group of residents has formed an advocacy group for the Village called the Marshallton Alliance. They have asked that I share their information with you (attached). All interested residents are welcome and encouraged to attend their monthly meetings which take place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6 pm upstairs at the Marshalton Inn.
Please contact Bob Lyng for more information or to join (stonewall419@msn.com or (610) 793-1467).

Development/Construction Activities @ Village
Copes Bridge Reconstruction (East Bradford Twp) by PennDOT is tentatively scheduled for the Spring of 2009 taking about a year to complete. They have committed to rebuilding the historic structure, not widening the cartway, but will be increasing the weight limit.
To attempt to alleviate traffic issues, the Township has requested that PennDOT work with us to realign and signalize the intersection of Route 322 and Sugars Bridge Roads. This project is on the Township’s road improvements list even though it is a State intersection. We are using the opportunity to get expedited approval for the project and State financial assistance.
Goddard School Parking Lot The Township Planning Commission is currently reviewing a reconfiguration of the school’s parking facilities and access.
Freedom Road Village (Spaulding’s Gas Station) Approved for 1 single family and 6 duplex structures with architectural controls. The applicant has reached an agreement with the Township to contribute towards the traffic calming gateway on the western side of the village.
